Virtual Knit Nights

I have been thinking recently about knit night.  I find it really hard to get to both my groups, even if I only go to one of them each week.  I look forward to knit night, it is one place where I can chat in person with other people who love what I love but also like to chat about other things.  I have made lots of friends at knit night so it really saddens me that I can't go as often as I like.

I have often joked, over the years that I ought to do a virtual knit night via Skype, but knew it would never happen, because it is such a hassle, and there is a serious limit to numbers on a video call.  Then recently I kept hearing people mention, in podcasts, VKNs.  It took me quite some time to work out what the initials stood for.  The acronym means Virtual Knit Night!  Once I found this out, my interest was piqued to say the least!

If I could go to a virtual knit night then I wouldn't feel that I was missing so much when I couldn't leave the sofa.  Apparently, you set up a virtual knit night using Google+ Hangouts.  It sounds so easy, especially when you can download an app for your phone or tablet.  I thought about doing some searches on Ravelry for VKNs and then I hit a bump in the road.  Most VKNs are hosted in the US.  I'm in the UK.  We are at least 5 hours ahead, which means when a US VKN starts I'll be tucked up in bed!

So I was wondering, does anyone in the UK or Europe fancy doing a VKN?  Or, even a VKA (Virtual Knit Afternoon)?  If I was to host something, would anyone be interested, or would I sit there on my own?  If you are interested, what time of day/day of the week would work best for you.

Basically I'm just putting the idea out there to see if there is any interest, and then I'll take it from there, if there is.  Please let me know what you think.
